It felt like a fleeting feeling, a feeling as if Grahm was being lifted away and then finally he opened his eyes and was greeted with an open space that seemed to be a grid and a menu.
After looking at the menu for a second, he squinted his eyes and was met with a low chime.
"Welcome to Ardermina Online. Please enter your account information."
"Huh...Well okay..."
"Username: Zion Braunswit"
"Password: *********"
After entering his info another narration began and second menu appeared, one with multiple icons and directories the likes of which he's never seen before. He scanned for a moment and decided to check out the movement tutorial just to get a feel for this new world. Finally it felt as if he met ground and as he did multiple columns of the grid rose and markers appeared on his HUD.
"Beginning movement tutorial. Please move to the indicated areas."
Grahm...Now, Zion, took his first step then finally jogged casually to the next marker in front of him and to the next, until he came to what appeared to be a cliff with a goal marker on the other side of the clearing. The jump itself seemed to be relatively long, about a few yards long and now that he looked at it, the jump seemed impossible for the average person. Zion paused and looked up at whatever he thought could see him at the moment.
"What the hell is this, are you really expecting me to clear that?"
Zion sighed, quitting was never really an option for him but this, this seemed like an impossible feat. No matter, he cracked his neck, took about twenty paces back and went into a a full on sprint until he was meet with the ledge, at which point he jumped with all of the force he could muster and took off towards the other side, which came faster than he expected. As he met with the other side, due to poor preparation he fell face first and slid into the goal marker.
"Movement tutorial complete. Would you like to try another or prepare to spawn?"
Zion grumbled, then smiled excitedly. There was no way he could've normally made that jump and it was obvious now that people have increased agility in this digital domain. Zion, got up, dusted himself off, and scanned the menu until he found exactly what he wanted. The combat tutorial. As he activated it, the columns on the grid returned to level ground and a notice at the top of his HUD popped up.
"*NOTICE* Before engaging in battle, it would be wise to navigate through your character menu and equip your weapon"
It seemed simple enough, Zion pulled up his character menu, went to items, and equipped the beginner gauntlents that were given to him after choosing the brawler class. The fists had a bit of weight to them and Zion marveled at the added realism. They were a bit heavier than the boxing gloves Grahm would wear on a daily basis, but nothing he couldn't get used to soon. As he marveled at the simple silver gauntlets, a boar spawned a few feet away from him. He looked over to the wild hog and scoffed.
"Are you kidding me, I can't hurt this little piggy."
After his taunt the boar squealed and rushed toward him and slammed into his gut, knocking the air out of him and sending him to his knees. Another narration began.
"Notice your health bar, when it is depleted to zero, your character dies. Use items or go to hospitals to recover lost health."
"J-Just like that, huh? Alright..."
Zion got back up and as he rose he assumed his boxing stance and glared at the boar. It wasn't an innocent animal now, but an enemy that needed a beat down. The boar rushed at him once more, but this time Zion wasn't planning on taking a hit. It jumped at him once more and Zion duck and weaved to the left for a counter attack.
"Your mine now you filthy pig! RRRAAAAAAAAAHHHH!"
As the boar passed, Zion delivered a strong armed fist to the face of the animal and rounded put his swing for a successful right hook. The boar went flying and then burst into digital dust.
"Combat tutorial complete. Please take note that as your journey goes on, you'll have the ability to craft custom made parts and weapons. Would you like to spawn in Brightwall?"
Zion retracted his fist and gave another stupid grin. He liked this place and could only imagine the adventures he was going to partake in. He pulled up the confirmation tab and hit yes and was then transported to Brightwall.
When he spawned he was expecting a the place to be crowded with other users seeing as how this was an MMO.
"Hello, is anybody here? Hello!?"
Zion was met with silence and then noticed a flashing exclamation mark on his HUD. He tapped the notice and a message appeared from another user detailing the events of an opening ceremony. He closed the message and looked at the time in the furthest corner of his HUD and took note that he was in fact, almost late.
"Damn it! Day one and I'm almost late!"
Zion then sprinted to the location the messaged described, if he was lucky he'd make it and see exactly what more this world has to offer.
